About
Initiated by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, the National Committee to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Genocide of 1932-1933 is comprised of leading Ukrainian American organizations, who have joined together to shed light on Ukraine's Genocide of 1932-1933.
In an effort to develop a comprehensive informational campaign about the Famine Genocide and a fundraising campaign to erect a Genocide Memorial in Washington, DC, the National Committee, which works in concert with the Ukrainian World Congress' International Holodomor Committee (IHC) and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko's "Presidential Council", has launched a year of events to mark the 75th anniversary of the Ukrainian Genocide.
The commemorations will culminate with the unveiling/ground-breaking of a Genocide Memorial in the nation's capital in the fall of 2008. The National Committee has planned a series of events for 2008 that include a traveling exhibit of materials on the Famine-Genocide; a requiem service at St. Patrick's Cathedral on November 15, 2008; "Ukrainian Genocide Torch Relay" - much like the Olympic torch, the Ukrainian Genocide torch would run through countries with sizeable Ukrainian communities, including the United States; a state-specific program to include the Ukrainian Genocide in high school curriculums throughout the United States; and, the publication of a commemorative book on the Genocide Memorial to be released at the unveiling ceremony in Washington.
